Help keep Android open, stop ADV

As described in my earlier post, Android is becoming much less open at the behest of Google.

Later this year, Google will fully implement ADV, “Android Developer Verification” in Android. ADV is a technical measure that requires all Android developers, even developers who provide apps through sources other than the Google-operated Play Store, to submit personal identification, as well as payment, to Google. If they don’t do so, their apps will be blocked from functioning on nearly all Android devices thanks to technical measures Google is implementing in Android to enforce ADV.

This means your Android will be functionally equivalent to an Apple phone, which requires Apple approval to run any apps. Considering Apple and Google are a duopoly, and smartphones are increasingly required to participate in public life, ADV represents a major threat to freedom.
